When App Store Connect refuses to let you submit, people usually search one of these:
This FAQ is about gates, not layout craft. For full size tables see the size guide and iPad layout guide. Source of truth: Apple’s Screenshot specifications.
| Rule | Official requirement |
|---|---|
| Per device size and localization | At least 1, up to 10 |
| Formats | .jpeg, .jpg, or .png |
| Transparency | No alpha channels or transparencies |
| Review | Must follow App Store Review Guidelines |
“At least one” applies per required display class, not “one image for the whole app.” Search results only show the first few slots—that is a conversion topic, not a submission topic.
Apple’s “Required device sizes” section states:
iPhone: at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display).
So the submission gate is the medium Dynamic Island class—not “you must manually upload a 6.9-inch set.” Large-display assets (including many 6.9 / Pro Max canvases) remain valuable as your primary marketing set and as the source Connect scales down from, but “uploaded a large set” and “satisfied the required class” are different statements.
Typical medium Dynamic Island portrait sizes (pick a size Connect lists for your account), for example:
| Portrait pixels | Note |
|---|---|
| 1179 × 2556 | Common accepted size |
| 1206 × 2622 | Another accepted size |
Always confirm the sizes shown in your App Store Connect media slots—the device list moves with new hardware.
Scaling: If UI is consistent across sizes, provide screenshots for the highest required resolution and let Connect scale down. Upload per-size sets only when you need different art.
Apple’s rule:
If your app supports iPadOS, provide at least one screenshot for the 13-inch iPad display.
| Situation | iPad screenshots |
|---|---|
| iPhone-only (does not run on iPad) | Not required |
| Universal / iPadOS supported | Required — 13″ slot, ≥1 image |
| 13″ already uploaded | Smaller iPad classes can use scaled assets |
Common 13″ portrait sizes include 2064 × 2752 and 2048 × 2732. “Are iPad screenshots required?” → only if the app runs on iPad.
If Xcode still targets iPad while you think you are phone-only, Connect will still demand iPad media. Check Deployment Info before you fight the upload UI.
| Platform | Required when |
|---|---|
| Mac | You ship a Mac app (16:10 sizes) |
| Apple TV | You ship tvOS |
| Vision Pro | You ship visionOS |
| Apple Watch | You ship watchOS; use the same Watch size across all localizations |
See Watch / TV / Vision sizes and Mac screenshot sizes.
Many roundups still say “6.9-inch is required.” Apple’s help page currently names medium Dynamic Island as the required iPhone class. Prefer App Store Connect’s live prompts + Apple’s help page. This article is dated 2026-10-22; if Apple updates the table, follow the new page.
Export exact canvases with any screenshot tool you like—including AppShot Maker—then verify the required slots in Connect before you hit Submit.
