App Store Preview Video Resolution & Specs 2026 (Including iPhone Duo)

Accepted resolution is not the same as device pixels

App Previews look simple—a 15–30 second clip on your product page—but App Store Connect only accepts a fixed set of accepted resolutions. Apple notes that most previews come from screen recordings, so you export to the accepted size for that display class, not necessarily the phone’s native pixel grid.

We already cover storytelling and “should you bother with video?” in the preview design guide and the video vs screenshots framework. This article is the spec sheet: numbers from Apple’s App preview specifications.

Hard requirements (every platform)

RuleSpec
Length15–30 seconds
CountUp to 3 previews per device size and localization
File size≤ 500 MB each
Frame rateUp to 30 fps
CodecsH.264 (.mov, .m4v, .mp4) or ProRes 422 HQ (.mov only)
H.264 bitrate (guidance)About 10–12 Mbps, progressive, up to High Profile Level 4.0
AudioStereo; AAC ~256 kbps at 44.1 / 48 kHz (PCM allowed with ProRes)
Default poster frameAround second 5 (changeable in Connect)
ProcessingUp to about 24 hours after upload
iMessage appsPreviews not available

Orientation: portrait or landscape for iPhone/iPad; landscape only for Mac, Apple TV, and Vision Pro. Previews appear before screenshots on the product page. If the preview aspect ratio differs from your screenshots, it may show in “A Closer Look”.

iPhone accepted resolutions (including Duo)

For modern Face ID / Dynamic Island phones, portrait uploads converge on:

Display classPortrait acceptedLandscape accepted
iPhone Duo886 × 19201920 × 886
Dynamic Island (large), including Air / Pro Max / Plus886 × 19201920 × 886
Face ID (large)886 × 19201920 × 886
Dynamic Island (medium)886 × 19201920 × 886
Face ID (medium), including 16e / 17e886 × 19201920 × 886
Home Button (large)1080 × 19201920 × 1080
Home Button (medium)750 × 13341334 × 750

Duo’s device resolutions (for example ~2034 × 1398 / 2853 × 2007) are not the preview export sizes. Do not ship a 1398 × 2034 screenshot canvas as a preview file.

iPad, Mac, TV, Vision Pro

PlatformPortraitLandscapeNotes
iPad 13″ / 12.9″ / 11″ / 10.5″ classes1200 × 16001600 × 12009.7″ also lists 900 × 1200 / 1200 × 900
Mac—1920 × 1080Landscape only
Apple TV—1920 × 1080Landscape only
Apple Vision Pro—3840 × 2160Landscape only

If UI is consistent, supply the highest required size and let Connect scale down; upload per-size sets only when you need different compositions.

Content rules that sit beside the pixel table

From Apple’s App Previews page:

  • Show in-app UI, not over-the-shoulder device footage or tapping fingers.
  • Assume muted autoplay—use on-screen copy that stays readable long enough.
  • Disclose IAP / subscription / login-gated features in the clip or end card.
  • Hotspots and simple transitions are fine; do not imply features you do not ship.
  • Changing the poster frame on an already approved preview usually means resubmitting that preview.

Pre-upload checklist

  1. Trim to 15–30 seconds with no black leader.
  2. Export exact accepted pixels; verify with QuickTime Inspector or ffprobe.
  3. Use H.264 + AAC unless you intentionally need ProRes 422 HQ.
  4. Upload into the correct device size + locale slot; wait for processing before locking the poster frame.
  5. Keep the story split with screenshots: motion for the core path, stills for benefit copy (decision framework).

Static canvases can be drafted in a screenshot editor such as AppShot Maker, then edited into a preview—but always re-check Apple’s table before you upload.

FAQ

Can I upload a native 2796×1290 screen recording as-is?
Usually no. Scale to the accepted size for that class (886 × 1920 portrait for most modern iPhones).

Are previews required?
No. Screenshots are. See the required screenshots / iPad FAQ.

Does Google Play use the same file upload?
No. Play uses a YouTube URL—see the Play promo video guide.
