Design & features

Huiwen Mincho was compiled from scans of many historical documents, mainly official character-reform papers of the 1950s–60s. Its Simplified characters recreate print forms from after simplification but before the later glyph reform, and its Traditional characters reflect the Republican to early PRC era—an authentic old metal-type look.

The author allows free use for print, screen and embedding, and even for building new fonts, but not selling the font on its own.

We recommend Huiwen Mincho for refreshing heritage brands, long-form reading pages and packaging for literary-style brands. Serif horizontals are thin, so on screen keep it at 14px or larger; it really shines in print.
