Design & features

Hanazono Mincho comes from GlyphWiki. Its style is close to Source Han Serif, and its big strength is coverage of almost every CJK unified ideograph; the drawback is that glyphs follow Japanese forms, so some characters differ from Chinese standards.

It contains 45,090 + 47,186 glyphs—more than a single font file's 65,535 limit—so it is split into HanaMinA and HanaMinB; install A for everyday use, as B holds rare characters.

Best uses

Hanazono Mincho shines in long-form reading pages and tea-house and restaurant menus, and is a good fit for cultural posters too. Serif horizontals are thin, so on screen keep it at 14px or larger; it really shines in print.
