In-App Purchase Review Screenshot Size vs the 1024×1024 Promotional Image

Two images, two jobs

An In-App Purchase in App Store Connect has two image fields, and people mix them up:

FieldPurposeShown on the App Store?Size
App Review ScreenshotShows App Review the item exists in your appNoAny screenshot specification your app supports
Image (promotional image)Promotes the purchase on your product page, or sets up win-back offersYesFixed 1024 × 1024

So when you search "in app purchase screenshot size" or "in app purchase review screenshot dimensions," first decide which image you mean. The sizes are completely different.

The review screenshot follows your app's sizes

Apple's description of the App Review Screenshot:

  • It should clearly show the item or service being offered.
  • It's used for review only and isn't displayed on the App Store.
  • Upload a screenshot that meets any of the screenshot specifications your app supports.
  • Once uploaded, you can update it but not remove it.

"Any of the screenshot specifications" means your app's regular screenshot sizes. For an iPhone app, the required slot's 1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556 (iPhone with Dynamic Island, medium display) works. If you support iPad, the 13-inch 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 also works. The full list is in our App Store screenshot size guide.

The general screenshot rules apply too: .jpeg, .jpg or .png, and no alpha channel.

How to capture it

  • Open the purchase screen on a device or simulator and capture a frame that shows the item name and the way to buy it.
  • No captions, backgrounds or device frames needed. Shoppers never see it.
  • Fix the size with resize and confirm size and alpha with the screenshot checker.

If the reviewer needs a test account, put it in Review Notes on the same page (up to 4,000 characters).

The promotional image is fixed at 1024 × 1024

You need it only when you want to promote the In-App Purchase on your product page or set up win-back offers. Also, if you use offer codes for auto-renewable subscriptions, the promotional image appears on the App Store page when customers redeem codes on iOS 14 or later.

Apple's requirements:

  • JPG or PNG
  • 1024 × 1024 pixels
  • 72 dpi, RGB, flattened, no rounded corners

The image represents the purchase in every country or region where your app is available. Design tips are in our promoted In-App Purchase image guide.

Three common mistakes

Uploading the 1024 × 1024 image as the review screenshot. 1024 × 1024 isn't an iPhone or iPad screenshot size. Use a screenshot size.

Polishing the review screenshot like marketing art. Apple says it's for review only. Spend that time on the promotional image and your product page screenshots.

Uploading a placeholder to delete later. You can update it but you can't remove it. Upload a clear one the first time.

Check the text fields while you're there

The localized fields on the same page have these limits:

  • Display Name: 2–30 characters
  • Description: up to 45 characters

Changes to localized information go through review. The old text stays live until the new text is approved.

FAQ

What is the in app purchase screenshot size, exactly? There's no separate size for the review screenshot. Use any screenshot size your app supports, such as 1206 × 2622 for iPhone. Only the promotional image is fixed at 1024 × 1024.

Do I need a review screenshot per language? On Apple's page the review screenshot is part of the general information, not the localizable fields. Upload one as the page asks.

Do I need the promotional image if I'm not promoting the item? Apple says it's required when you want to promote the item on your product page or set up win-back offers.
