App Store Creative Asset Sizes 2026: Product Page Header (3840×1646), Search Results (3:2) and the Universal 5244×2950

Two new placements beyond screenshots

For years, the visual side of an App Store product page came down to three things: the icon, screenshots and app previews. With iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, App Store Connect adds a new asset type Apple calls creative assets, used in two main placements:

  • Product page header: the banner people see first when they land on your product page.
  • Search results: the visual shown when your app comes up in the Search tab.

The difference from screenshots is about what they're for. Screenshots and previews must show the app in use (App Review Guidelines 2.3.3 and 2.3.4). Creative assets can carry your brand, a seasonal theme or new content instead. According to App Store Connect Help, they are optional, support both images and video, and appear for people on iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 and later.

Apple's iPhone Duo developer news (the device goes on sale October 23) calls out "the new product page header" and search results assets by name. If you want your product page to look current when that redesign lands, now is the time to prepare.

Image specs at a glance

These numbers come from Apple's creative assets specifications and were checked line by line on the day this was published:

PlacementAspect ratioResolutionFormats
Product page header21:93840 × 1646.jpeg / .jpg / .png
Search results3:2Min 1920 × 1280, max 3840 × 2560.jpeg / .jpg / .png
Universal (both placements)16:95244 × 2950.png only

Three things trip people up:

  1. No alpha channel or transparency. Same rule as screenshots. Flatten the background before exporting a PNG, or export JPEG.
  2. The header is a fixed size, not a minimum. 3840×1646 means exactly 3840×1646.
  3. Universal assets are PNG only. To reuse one image for both header and search, build a 16:9 PNG at 5244×2950 and tick "Use header asset in search results". Apple says that option only appears for universal assets.

Video specs

Both placements also accept video:

PlacementAspect ratioResolutionFrame rateLengthFormats
Product page header21:93840 × 164630 or 60 fps5–30 s.mov / .m4v / .mp4
Search results3:21920 × 1280 – 3840 × 256030 or 60 fps5–30 s.mov / .m4v / .mp4

Apple spells out that videos in search results are muted by default and can't currently be unmuted. On the product page they also start muted, though people can turn the sound on. Both placements loop. So design the video to work with no sound, keep key messages out of the voiceover, and make the last frame flow into the first.

In-app event cards also count as creative assets: the card is 16:9 (1920×1080 to 3840×2160) and the details page is 9:16 (1080×1920 to 2160×3840). We won't go deeper on those here.

Designing so nothing gets cropped or rejected

Keep the focal point centered

Apple's asset best practices make the same point several times. Assets display differently across devices and orientations, so put your focal point in the center and keep key elements inside the safe area. Apple provides header and search results templates for Figma, Photoshop, Pixelmator and Sketch, with the safe area marked. Starting from those beats guessing.

For a 21:9 banner, one approach that works: put the core visual and one short line of text in roughly the middle half, and use the sides only for background that can be cropped without losing meaning.

Two placements, two jobs

  • Header: the visitor has already tapped in. This is the place for brand, a seasonal theme or new content. Apple's advice is one clear idea per asset, not a collage.
  • Search results: people are searching with intent. Apple suggests making the app's purpose obvious at a glance, and showing the interface or gameplay is fine. If you skip a search results asset, App Store falls back to your in-app events, previews and screenshots.

Review rules

The new guideline 2.3.14 covers creative assets specifically. They must relate to your app's content, features or brand, be appropriate for all ages, and must not include specific or discounted pricing, unverifiable claims, or misleading references to other apps. The best-practices page adds: no URLs, no copyright symbols, no other platforms or marketplaces, and no Apple recognitions such as Editor's Choice or App of the Day.

So "50% off this Black Friday" is out. Use color, illustration and themed content to show the season instead.

Uploading and swapping without a new version

App Store Connect Help describes two paths:

  1. With an app version. On the version page, open Product Page Information > Header and Search Results, drop in your asset, and use Preview to check iPhone and iPad, both orientations and every language. Then submit the version as usual. The assets go live once the version is approved and released.
  2. Standalone, through Asset Library. Upload creative assets to Asset Library and submit them for review on their own, without a new app version and without saying where you'll use them. Apple reviews standalone assets against your app's latest version.

The second path is the useful one. Once an asset is approved, you can place it on the version that's already live and click Publish, with no new submission. Get your holiday or anniversary banners approved ahead of time and switch them in when the day comes.

Fitting this into your screenshot workflow

Creative assets don't replace screenshots. Screenshots are still required, and for iPhone that means the Dynamic Island medium display (6.3-inch) class. See App Store screenshot sizes for every platform. A smooth setup:

  1. Lock the colors, fonts and caption style for your screenshots in the screenshot editor.
  2. Reuse the same visual language in the banner, so scrolling from header to screenshots feels like one story.
  3. Check pixels and format with the screenshot compliance checker or an image tool before uploading.
  4. To find out which banner converts better, run a product page A/B test.

Pre-upload checklist

  • Header is exactly 3840×1646, or the universal asset is exactly 5244×2950 (PNG)
  • Search results asset is 3:2, between 1920×1280 and 3840×2560
  • No transparency
  • Focal point and text sit inside the template's safe area
  • Video is 5–30 s at 30/60 fps, works on mute, and loops cleanly
  • No prices, discounts, URLs, other platforms or Apple recognitions
  • Previewed in App Store Connect for every language
