Design & features

Kaisotai is a slender Japanese typeface built only from vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines. Tall and thin, its fine, clear look feels retro, while the rigid verticals add a cool edge.

It has about 3,900 kanji; some Simplified characters are missing, so switch to Traditional input.

Best uses

Kaisotai shows its personality best in retro and nostalgic themes, short-video cover titles and article header images. For headlines, tighten the tracking a little and size it well above body text for a clear hierarchy.

Pairing ideas

Fonts on this site that pair well with Kaisotai:

  • Glow Sans (未来荧黑) — a neutral face that stays clear at small sizes, ideal for body and supporting text
  • Monaspace — a Latin companion that never competes and has great numerals
