What this tool does
Pixel art effects online: browse about 20 categories and ~240 pixelfx VFX (fire, explosions, ice, lightning, melee, UI, and more) with search and filters. Preview on a pixel-scaled canvas—play/pause, reseed, mirror, glow strength, and palette recolor (presets or a custom dark→bright ramp). Export the current frame as PNG, a transparent sprite sheet PNG with Aseprite-style JSON, or a short GIF via the site’s gif.js. Everything runs locally in the browser; no MP4/FFmpeg, and the upstream gallery Patch Pixel font is not shipped.
How to use
- Pick an effect on the left by category or search (e.g. campfire, frost nova).
- Preview the animation; pause, reseed, flip, tweak glow, or recolor the palette.
- Export a PNG frame, sprite sheet PNG+JSON, or short GIF—all generated locally.
FAQ
Do effects upload to a server?
No. pixelfx draws and exports in your browser via Canvas; only static scripts and the catalog are fetched.
What engines can use the sprite JSON?
The JSON follows a common Aseprite-style frame table (rects + duration). Most 2D pipelines can import it; see meta.pixelfx in the file.
Can I recolor effects?
Yes. Choose a preset ramp or a custom dark→bright gradient; it maps to the effect’s palette option (resampled to the default length).
How is this different from Screenshot Beautify?
This tool is for pixel-game VFX preview and sprite export. Screenshot Beautify is for store/social screenshot frames and watermarks.
What is the license?
The library is MIT pixelfx from GitHub patch-gg/pixelfx (Patch + Hugo Duprez). We do not ship the Patch Pixel font from the upstream gallery.
